Jesus and God's Love to Women
A Dead Girl and a Sick Woman Need Jesus' Help
The Holy Injil—Matthew 9:18-26
A synagogue leader came to Jesus while he was talking to John's disciples.
He bowed down in front of Jesus and said, "My daughter just died. Come, lay your hand on her, and she will live."
Jesus and his disciples got up and followed the man.
Then a woman came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of his clothes.
She had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years. She thought, “If I only touch his clothes, I'll get well."
When Jesus turned and saw her he said, "Cheer up, daughter! Your faith has made you well." At that very moment the woman became well.
Jesus came to the synagogue leader's house. He saw flute players and a noisy crowd. He said to them, "Leave! The girl is not dead. She's sleeping."
But they laughed at him.
When the crowd had been put outside, Jesus went in, took her hand, and the girl came back to life. The news about this spread throughout that region.
1. How did/do many societies treat daughters? How did Jesus show God’s love for not just sons but daughters?
2. How do you think the woman who was subject to bleeding felt after 12 long years of suffering? How do you think her family treated her during this time?
In the Holy Injil the book of Mark, which also tells about this woman it says, "She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse."
3. Why do you think the woman didn't ask Jesus but just touched him?
4. How did Jesus show God's love to this woman? What did he call her? What does that mean?
